I am an associate professor of Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I am also a part-time faculty at the Beckman Institute of Science and Technology. I joined UIUC in 2006. Before UIUC, I was a Postdoctoral Researcher at Carngie Mellon University, after I spent about a year at Xerox PARC. I received my PhD in Cognition Science at George Mason University in 2003.

I published in journals such as Human-Computer Interaction, ACM Transactions of Computer-Human Interaction (ToCHI), Cognitive Science, IEEE intelligent systems, and Spatial Cognition and Computation. I regularly go to conferences such as Cognitive Science and ACM CHI. I am an Associate Editor of Topics in Cognitive Science. I have been serving in the program committee of ACM CHI, Cognitive Science, IEEE Social Computing, ACM Intelligent User Interface, and Health Informatics

Research

My research lies at the intersection of cognitive science, human-computer Interaction, and artificial intelligence. My interests in cognitive science has been primarily in understanding the capabilities and limitations of the human mind. I am interested in developing computational models of human behavior and applying theories of cognitive science to inform design of intelligent interaction techniques. My interests in human-computer interaction stems from the desire to better understand how users interact with artefacts to accomplish different tasks. I am interested in how features of intelligent interfaces guide human interaction and impact performance at both the individual and social levels. My interests in artificial intelligence has been primarily in machine learning and other computational techniques that generate human-level intelligence. Check out the Cascade Lab to learn more about our research.
